Our History with 4M CAD Pro WHY it is such great Value

Many customers are surprised — or even sceptical — that 4M CAD Pro can perform as well as (or better than) products priced many times higher. This perception is understandable, but there is solid reasoning behind the value it offers.

4M CAD works with the DWG file format and is available in three versions: Classic, Standard, and Professional, with pricing typically ranging from £170 to £370. These competitive prices are possible because 4M developed their solution through their links with IntelliCAD.

IntelliCAD is a CAD editor and development platform with an API published by the IntelliCAD Technology Consortium (ITC) through a shared development model. It emulates the familiar interface and core functionality of AutoCAD while enabling flexible interoperability across multiple file formats, including DWG, BIM, and TIFF.

ITC IntelliCAD is not sold directly to end users. Instead, it is licensed to consortium members who contribute to its ongoing development through annual fees. This co-operative model allows members to distribute IntelliCAD-based solutions worldwide under their own licensing agreements.

4M have been involved with IntelliCAD for many years and have developed a full suite of CAD products based on the DWG file format.

4M is based in Athens and serves thousands of customers worldwide. Both the software and the company itself can reasonably be described as mature and well established.

At Mintronics, our core focus has always been 3D CAD. However, we recognise that many applications — such as electrical drawings and site layouts — are better suited to 2D workflows. For this reason, in 2012 we partnered with 4M to offer their 2D CAD products in the UK. This marked the beginning of our relationship with 4M, and in later years we expanded to include their architectural solutions.

So, if the offering seems too good to be true, this may be one occasion when it isn’t. If you have a 2D CAD requirement, we invite you to take advantage of a trial and see the capabilities for yourself.

The blog introduces the collaboration between Mintronics and 4MCAD, focusing on how 4MCAD is positioned as a cost-effective alternative to traditional CAD software like AutoCAD while still maintaining full DWG compatibility and a familiar working environment for designers and engineers. It highlights the idea that users can get strong 2D/3D design capability, interoperability, and a professional CAD setup without being locked into expensive subscription models, which is a key appeal for smaller firms and independent users. The partnership also reflects Mintronics’ role in bringing practical engineering software solutions to the UK market.
